Silent Songs
2021 Lasercut birch plywood, various sizesSilent Songs creates a tangible link between audio and emotion by re-generating existing designs and photos with an overlayed audio wave. Audio files are processed, then fed into a script that redraws a separate input figure using the data from the oscillating audio signal. The result is lasercut into slices of birch wood to produce pieces that are simple from afar, but grow in complexity the closer one looks.
The audio signal is indescipherable to anyone except those who know what produced it, allowing the pieces to be private rememberances or, if shared, a new medium to convey a different kind of detail.
